Training Your Dog

Watching your dog do some neat tricks is fun, but first you need to train them too. Training a dog takes time. The keywords in this context are patience and consistency.

Some of the basic commands which your dog needs to learn are to sit, stay, come, lie down, and no. Here are some points on how you can effectively teach them to your dog:

Doggie treats! Dogs simply love them. Initially make use of them frequently to make your dogs obedient to you. When they learn to follow your instructions, then gradually take the treats away till they obey your commands without food.

‘Repetition’ is the keyword here. You have to repetitively and consistently make your dog understand what you are asking it to perform. Repeating it only solidifies the learnt act.

Be regular in teaching your dog. Daily take out at least 30 minutes for your dog’s training. It will help your dog to remember the tricks.

Command your dog verbally and physically. Dogs tend to associate spoken words and hand motions with different actions. If you tell your dog to roll over using your words and hands then it will help your dog to comprehend what you are asking them to do. Be sure to always use the same wording of the commands otherwise your dog will get confused.

Try using a clicker. It is a small plastic box having a metal strip. When pushed, the clicker gives off a sharp, clicking sound. This tool is becoming quite popular in dog training. Be sure to first familiarize your dog with its sound and then make it follow your command.

Be sure to give your dog some playtime after training.
