Everything to Know About the American English Coonhound

The American English Coonhound is the dog to have when one is a hunting enthusiast. This dog is able to track scents that are far away from the starting point. The American English Coonhound is extremely loyal to their owners as they stick right next to them in any situation.

History

The American English Coonhound usually hunts foxes and rabbits, but can also be an excellent duck hunter as well. This dog is bred to be in the fields and swamps with the hunters and to fetch back their owners catch. The American English Coonhound is a spinoff from their ancestor the Foxhound. These hounds originated over in England, and then brought to the United States to use as hunters.

Demeanor

The American English Coonhound is extremely agile and fast. They are able to squeeze in between tight spaces and will do anything for their owners. They need to be ran every day since their energy level is quite high, since that is the way they were bred.  The American English Coonhound is also a great watch dog since they guard their territory with their life. Their bark rings loud and clear and can be heard from far away. They will likely scare off any intruder once the American English Coonhound gets a whiff of their scent, and they sound off. Their coat requires virtually no upkeep since it is very short and does not need to be brushed. However, if they are in the swamp all day, it would be good to give them a bath once in a while.
