History
The Dachshund was first created in the seventeenth century in Europe. These little toy dogs were used for mainly hunting badgers. The dog’s long body is to be able to go in small holes to drive out potential prey. The Dachshund did not come to the Americas until the early nineteen hundreds. These dogs were not favored by Americans at the time when there was a war going on.
Body Style
The Dachshund’s body is long and lean and very low to the ground. They are lucky to top a foot high. Their bodies are able to reach a foot and a half long. They have floppy ears, and their snouts are small, long and pointy. The Dachshund’s colors are mainly black with some brown around the edges, to mainly brown, to an assortment of brown’s and blacks.
Companion
Dachshund’s are very good dogs to have around children and in every family. These dogs are loyal to their masters and can be fierce protectors. These dogs can also be brought out to hunt with their owners since their teeth are sharp and can hold their own. Dachshunds are very affectionate and loving dogs who love to sleep on their owner’s lap, or on their feet.
