The Beautiful Saint Bernard

The Saint Bernard is one of the largest dogs that roam around. Their massive size makes it difficult to live in any type of housing. This dog breed needs to have the space to be able to stretch out its legs and relax in. The Saint Bernard has also been known to be rescue dogs in the mountains.

Description

Saint Bernard dogs are large dogs with relatively long hair. Their coat is colors of white and brown, as well as red and black that is in large spots all over the body. The Saint Bernard can come in two different style coats, where one is gruff and one is silky smooth. These dogs have a long and flowing tail.

Temperament

Saint Bernard’s are dogs who are very easy going, even in stressful or exciting times. This dog always has its emotions in check.  Saint Bernard’s need to be socialized a lot in order for them to not be a recluse so they do not do their own thing. They are good with kids and are good to have as a family dog. Even with the calm demeanor, this dog is huge, and needs to have space to run around. When an owner first gets this type of dog, they need to make sure that the human is in control and they own the dog, not the dog owns them. If this is not established when they first move in, one could have an independent alpha dog on their hands.
