Bringing a New Puppy Home to another Dog
posted by adminIt is difficult for an owner to bring another dog to home. Dog already in home naturally doesn’t like the new member. It needs to be careful for first meeting. A neutral place is needed for introducing a dog to another. It would be in an open place so that they can separate themselves in any time if they want. It is a good thinking to bring them separately from different place. Lose their leash and start a natural walk. In this walking time they will know each other although for a short time but it will help. If you see any intense of fighting pull on the leash. For many dogs introduce each of them separately.
After walking come to home and let them play a while in the yard. Before entering in the room you may leash off your first dog not the second dog. If first dog accept second dog you may lose the leash. Don’t let them go alone anywhere for the first one or two weeks. Your first dog has some routines and let it continue this. Play with them at leisure time and make sure the first dog feels comfortable with second. Your target is to create bonding with both dogs.
After knowing each other you can take them together in cars or automobiles otherwise not. Don’t feed them in one bowl. Always give meal in separate bowls. If anyone finishes the meal, train them not to eat others. Always separate them if they start fighting. Don’t misunderstand that it’ll be helpful for them to know each other. You may scream to stop them from fighting. Water hose, horn, sprays may help you to stop them. Be careful about these dogs because they may bite you. If they stop, give them some treats as they can feel stop fighting is good. Be patience while training. Dog may not accept one another but don’t force them. Give them time and you’ll be always around them. New dog may need favor but don’t give it in front of other dogs. It could make dogs jealous. You’ll give your all dogs same amount of time. Make a separate bed or crate for new one because when you will not in home other dogs may attack. Make sure your new puppy is healthy and can’t spread disease to others.
