How Long Does it Take to Properly Train a Dog for Hunting Purposes?

Dog training depends on what type dog is that, what breed etc. Some dog takes four or five months for training but it is best to train them 4/5 hours a day for four months and It will make your dog a good puppy but 3/4 hours a day for 12 months make your dog a dangerous puppy.

If you want to shoot a duck and collect it in a winter season you will need a hunting dog which will bring that duck for you from ice cold water and go back again for next one. I’ll not just help you, I’ll be your most obedient and loyal friend. So it is very important to train your dog properly.

Choosing a dog is important. Find out which one is best for you and your purposes. Some dog needs a large room. Some dog loves to run around. Choose it wisely.

There are some adult dogs that are trained for waterfowl but it is best to train your own dog. You can find breeds from net or from your local shops.

Introduce your dog to water when it is little. First start it in a pool and give a idea that water is fun and give a good treat for going to water. Later you’ll try it in open water.

Some basic commands will save your time in hunting training. Among them sit and stay are important. You can use food for this command. Hold food above its head and give command to sit, after sitting down give your dog a treat and do it again and again. Your dog will learn it. Make sure your dog can recognize the real duck and decoy. You may use a dummy for dog training. Throw the decoy with waterfowl scent and let your dog to return it back towards you. After coming back, show your dog that you are happy. Dogs are very obedient and they want to please its owner. Before going to real hunting introduce your dog to gunshot sound. Take it to your practice area. Keep in your mind that the more you practice your dog with scent of waterfowl, the more your dog will please you. You should be patience because dogs are not human they are animals. Don’t be angry if your dog don’t understand your commands. Use your common senses to train dogs.
